Privacy Policy

Last updated: March 10, 2026

HerMap (“we”, “our”, “the app”) is a street harassment reporting tool. We built it to be anonymous by design. This policy explains what data we collect, why, and how we handle it.

What we collect

  • Anonymous device identifier. When you first open the app, your device generates a random token. On iOS, this is the vendor identifier. On Android, this is the Android ID. We use this solely to prevent spam and abuse. We cannot use it to identify you personally.
  • Incident reports. When you submit a report, we store: the location (latitude and longitude), the incident type, an optional text note, and a timestamp. Reports are not linked to any personal information.
  • No personal information. We do not collect your name, email address, phone number, IP address, or any other personally identifiable information. There is no account creation, no login, and no profile.

What we do NOT collect

  • Your real-time location (we only store coordinates you explicitly submit)
  • Contacts, photos, or files
  • Browsing history or app usage analytics
  • Advertising identifiers

How we use your data

Report data is used to generate the safety heatmap visible to all users. Anonymous device identifiers are used only for authentication and abuse prevention.

Data sharing

We do not sell, rent, or share your data with any third party. No analytics services, no advertising networks, no data brokers.

Data storage

All data is stored on servers located in the European Union (Paris, France). Data is transmitted over HTTPS.

Data retention

Reports are retained indefinitely to maintain heatmap accuracy. The heatmap algorithm naturally reduces the weight of older reports over time.

Your rights

Under GDPR, you have the right to access, correct, or request deletion of your data. Since we don't collect personal information, there is generally nothing to delete. If you believe a specific report should be removed, contact us.

Children

HerMap is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect data from children.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy. Changes will be posted here with an updated date.
